Women on the Bridge

Women For Women International Bridge Walk

Uwan joins women for women international for Brooklyn Bridge walk

International Women's Day 2010

Three core members of UWAN joined hundreds of women and men on the morning of March (th, International Women's Day, to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to demonstrate solidarity with women worldwide. The march was lead by Zeinab Salbi of WfW, Naomi Campbell and Mary Robinson (ex President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.) Mayor Bloomberg greeted us as we reach Manhattan.

Brief but passionate speeches followed the walk, with Mary Robinson asking participants to work with an NGO coalition focusing on the implementation of the initial, ground-breaking Women, Peace and Security SCR 1325 which will have its 10 year anniversary in October. There have been improvements in the 10-year period but as Mary said and we all know, the situation is still is not good enough.
